bitch rant....about our generation

generation face plant

i have a problem with 'us':

disclaimer - i know there are a lot of success stories in our generation [not just financially]. i am just putting this out there, because it's a rant & why the hell not - i can do what i want on here.

i struggle with the hedonistic, self-absorbed, i-life, play-now-work-later, living-on-credit, hipster-hollywood fantasy lifestyles of my age group & younger. it seems to be perfectly ok to rely on the bank of mom and dad, rack up credit a mile high and partying forever, with nothing to show for in the end...

what happened to responsibility, hard work, investing in your future, educating yourself when you realize you weren’t taught enough – or anything – in school? we have become completely dependent on others to live our lives – what if one day the supermarkets can’t deliver our food and water? not many know how to grow a vegetable or even cook, for that matter. printed literature is ’so whatever'& every year there is a new must-have gadget. is getting drunk & partying, with a camera crew in tow actually a career? some old values are good ones to pass on.

we seem to have this attitude that we will always be bailed out & that the 1930’s were a chapter in a fiction novel. ‘Kids’ (& that seems to include the near 30’s nowadays) don’t know the real value of a dollar, & don’t care to learn - why should we?

i am not a great success story, but i have never stopped learning & continue to do so. i think we need to keep the conversations going; if the system is useless, then it is up to us all to educate one another.

WE NEED TO GROW A PAIR! We cannot be (and subsequently raise) a generation of complete narcissistic losers…

food matters - you are what you eat

i have always been 'weird' about what i eat. i don't mean that i hate brussel sprouts or don't eat fish [i would never decline either], but i am very picky about the quality of food, its origins and ethical production/ organic farming, etc.
food, in my mind, should be your number one priority: it should be what you spend the most money and time on, as it goes into your body and affects every part of you.

my bf and i are both european and don't believe in fad diets, or diets in general - we eat all foods, home cooked meals, together or with family and friends - and yes, at the dinner table! we eat a variety of foods from fish, red meat, white meat, all veggies, good bread to quality chocolates. we drink wine, beer and vodka, coffee, tea and water. we are not afraid of fats. olive oil is our friend. we enjoy life.
when i am ill or injured, which hardly ever happens thanks to my super-duper immune system [which my mom accredits to 3 years of breast feeding!!] and healthy diet and non-chemical environment [organic cleaning agents and personal care items & make-up, fluoride-free toothpaste - i am 29 and have never had a cavity], i use natural remedies, such as, herbs, honey, teas, water and rest to cure myself. i don't have a family doctor and know how to check for lumps in my breasts.

i also have an open, educated mind, which lets me explore the wealth of knowledge which is out there for all of us to learn from. not from the news on tv, but from independent thinkers, whose pay cheques do not come from 'big pharma', from videos, documentaries, books and independent journals/ magazines. mother nature has been educating humans for thousands of years, how to survive, prosper and heal ourselves. i don't believe in a pill for an ill, but rather that you are what you eat and what you surround yourself with.

thank you to those who have the guts to stand up, speak their mind, educate people, share knowledge and make it available for us, homo interneticus....one step at a time :]
