generation face plant
i have a problem with 'us':
disclaimer - i know there are a lot of success stories in our generation [not just financially]. i am just putting this out there, because it's a rant & why the hell not - i can do what i want on here.
i struggle with the hedonistic, self-absorbed, i-life, play-now-work-later, living-on-credit, hipster-hollywood fantasy lifestyles of my age group & younger. it seems to be perfectly ok to rely on the bank of mom and dad, rack up credit a mile high and partying forever, with nothing to show for in the end...
what happened to responsibility, hard work, investing in your future, educating yourself when you realize you weren’t taught enough – or anything – in school? we have become completely dependent on others to live our lives – what if one day the supermarkets can’t deliver our food and water? not many know how to grow a vegetable or even cook, for that matter. printed literature is ’so whatever'& every year there is a new must-have gadget. is getting drunk & partying, with a camera crew in tow actually a career? some old values are good ones to pass on.
we seem to have this attitude that we will always be bailed out & that the 1930’s were a chapter in a fiction novel. ‘Kids’ (& that seems to include the near 30’s nowadays) don’t know the real value of a dollar, & don’t care to learn - why should we?
i am not a great success story, but i have never stopped learning & continue to do so. i think we need to keep the conversations going; if the system is useless, then it is up to us all to educate one another.
WE NEED TO GROW A PAIR! We cannot be (and subsequently raise) a generation of complete narcissistic losers…
