i have come to the conclusion that shoes, especially high heels, are a perverse and torturous invention [just like bras, but that's a whole other rant]. since i am not the 'preferred' - and unrealistic - height of a fashion model, most of the pants i own are too long. today i wore one of said pairs, with appropriately high heels, to minimize the amount of fraying that occurs when you walk on your pant hems. well, not even half the day has passed and i am ready to have several toes amputated. my feet feel as i imagine they would after years of traditional chinese foot binding. i'm sorry mr. loubouton, jimmy choo and whoever else the modern wizards of shoe making are, i prefer my birkenstock or even better: au natural. maybe with the prices that designer shoes cost nowadays, they should just stay encased in glass, on a pedestal as the pieces of art that they are, where they cannot inflict pain on anyone.... so as i type, i am sitting at my desk with my stupid stilettos discarded in the corner and my bare feet happy and free. my high heels are retiring anyway....
So I guess I am a follower, as I can't wait to see what's going through your mind from day to day. I'm a bit surprised however, as I know you as a collector of many a pair of knee-high boots, high heels, strange slippers, and even a pair of furry snow boots??. It sounds like you’re moving from high fashion to granola and I'm worried your attitude is becoming more Island than Mainland. I does hurt my feelings a bit though to think years ago someone bought you a sewing machine for Christmas so you could alter your own clothes, and said person was made to feel like a chauvinist for buying a woman a sewing machine (like it’s sole purpose was to repair his underpants or something). Anyway, this is starting to sound like a rant, when really I just wanna say that I’m not a fan of wearing shoes either (Stilettos or Nike casuals) and I have a friend who is only 4’-10” and never wears high heals. She looks just fine.
ReplyDeletePS.. I didn't know being anonymous was an option.

haha suuuucker....I STILL SEW!! of course....and i loved the present - did i make u feel like a chauvinist?? if so, i'm sorry :( there is nothing wrong with domestic gifts, and i received many. i am not offended by activities in the kitchen, or anything like that. who cares? so, i like to sew and cook - doesn't mean i don't have opinions or a brain. ppl who think that, need to think harder. therefore i am not offended ;)
ReplyDeletei do still like the look of fancy shoes, who wouldn't?? but they have their time and place. things change, ppl change - that's life. change isn't a bad thing, i think.
roll with it :)
